Toronto BMW Speeder Convicted

A young man who bragged online about driving through a residential neighbourhood at more than 100 km/h over the speed limit was convicted of careless driving, police said Tuesday.

Vladimir Rigenco, 19, went onto the “5 Series” forum for BMW fans and “described in detail driving his 2006 BMW M5S on Apple Blossom Dr. in Vaughan 100 km/h in excess of the speed limit,” a York Regional Police press release said Tuesday.

“He was quickly lambasted by other members of the online community who proved themselves responsible by not encouraging the suspect’s behaviour — in fact they advised him to slow down and be more cautious.”

An American man who saw the message on the website called police April 9. That kicked off an investigation that culminated in the arrest of Rigenco on April 16.

Rigenco was sentenced Thursday to a six-month driving prohibition, 12 months probation and $1,000 fine after pleading guilty to careless driving.

Rigenco’s driving “is no joke,” police said. “High rates of speed dramatically increase the possibility of death or serious injury to the driver, innocent passengers, other motorists and pedestrians.

“Incidents involving young drivers are especially troubling as the level of driving experience is low and the ability to react to a dangerous situation is compromised by the driver’s inexperience.”

  1. This child is a moron, an absolute moron!!! You wonder what kind of parents he has. Who really care less what is reported as long as they got this person that could potentially kill someone.

  2. his driver is no more dangerous to our kids that the idiot cell phone users who continue to
drive our roads talking nonsese on hand held cell phones. I’d rather have one kid
driving 100 km down my street than 50 or so cell phone users. How many of you commentators use the cell phone while driving……..many hypoctritical people out there

  3. I haven’t read the other comments so I’m not sure if anyone has asked how a 19 year old boy can afford a BMW. I’m assuming either mom and dad or maybe an unsavory career in drug dealing.
Mom and Dad do you know what your son is up to? Not, otherwise he wouldn’t be driving around in a BMW doing 100 over the speed limit in a residential neighbourhood. Think of the law suits if your son kills someone, i’m sure you people aren’t concerned with possible loss of life, I’m sure it’s more about the money. Keep this kid off the road for his own sake!!!!
